MA, HISTORY OF ART, DESIGN AND VISUAL CULTURE
DEPARTMENT OF ART & DESIGN, UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA

Julie-Ann Mercer completed her Master of Arts degree in the History of Art, Design and Visual Culture at the University of Alberta in January 2017. She examined the set of prints Views in Hudson’s Bay (1825), a series of six hand-coloured lithographs based on watercolours by the nineteenth-century artist Peter Rindisbacher. In her thesis, she compares the lithographs to the watercolours, analyzing the construction of indigenous and settler-colonial visual culture.
