INDEPENDENT Writer and researcher


Julie-Ann Mercer is an independent writer and researcher based in Edmonton, Alberta. Her exhibition essays and art reviews have been featured in a number of galleries, magazines, and blogs, including Latitude 53 Contemporary Visual Culture, Vue Weekly, the Work of Arts Faculty of Arts Magazine, and Curious Arts. She received her MA in the History of Art, Design and Visual Culture from the University of Alberta in 2017. Her ongoing research examines the construction of Indigenous and settler culture in the Views in Hudson’s Bay (1825), a series of six hand-tinted lithographs based on watercolours by the nineteenth-century artist Peter Rindisbacher.
